Race 3-6 Details

Date: Friday, January 30 & Saturday, January 31

Venue: Gemini (Mt Hood Meadows)

Discipline: GS Friday, SL Saturday

Weather: WET!!

Athletes: Don't forget your HARD EAR RACE HELMET, GS SKIS, SL SKIS, AND SL GUARDS, if you have them. Bring extra layers, gloves, socks, goggles, waterproof gear - whatever you have for the wet weather.

  • Travel

    • Carpools will depart Portland Fri 1/30, Return to Portland by way of Hood River (some will stay overnight), then do the same again Sat 1/31, with some cars coming from Portland and others from Hood River. Use carpool link from the weekly announcements. Carpools should plan to arrive to Meadows by 8am.

  • Race

    • Getting ready: We'll meet on the 2nd floor of the lodge where we'll have some tables for athletes to use to get dressed in the morning. Athletes should be headed outside at 8:45am to group up with coaches and get in line so we're headed up the lift at 9am.

    • Venue: The venue is not accessible by foot, unfortunately. So if you're a parent who is driving but does not ski or ride, I recommend bringing a book or a computer to work on while you're in the lodge.

    • Racing: We’ll race with a compacted schedule -we'll move quickly through everyone, with only a short redress between runs 1 & 2; lunch between second and third runs is only 15 minutes, so bring a bag on the hill; then we will run race 2 (runs 3 & 4) following inspection of the second course.

    • Start Order: The start order will be available on the league website later tonight:

      https://mthoodleague.ski/

    • Live Timing: The links will be posted to the league website once/if available. They may not be available with limited service/wifi at the resort. https://mthoodleague.ski/

    • Meadows has good cell service. Keep an eye on Remind for any updates from coaches throughout the day.

  • Food

    • Athletes are responsible for their food on race days. Highly recommend packing this with you in a cooler/lunch box/backpack that fits into your boot bag and/or can be brought to the race venue.

  • Friendly Post-Race Reminders

    • TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR BAGS TO DRY - This means boots, gloves, goggles, ski clothes. There's the potential that it's going to be very wet, so the best thing you can do for yourself is make sure your gear has dried completely between Friday and Saturday.

  • Staying Overnight in Hood River

    • Those athletes and parent chaperones who indicated they'll be staying overnight on Friday will have rooms (cost is covered). Kirstan will be there ahead of us to check in, and will meet us with room keys in the lobby upon arrival.

    • Room assignments are below. Some athletes asked me about sharing a room rather than rooming with their parent - that's fine. I assigned them this way to prevent extra cost for additional people. Do with this what you will, but please let me know of your alternate roommate plans if you haven't already so I know where you'll be.

    • Hotel: Best Western Plus Hood River Inn (1108 E Marina Dr, Hood River, OR 97031)

    • Food:

      • Friday Dinner: We have a reservation at Double Mountain Brewing at 6pm on Friday. We plan to get pizzas for the group. You will be responsible for covering the cost of any non-water beverages.

      • Saturday Breakfast: We will have grab-and-go options available for you Saturday morning. Because the hotel has a full-service restaurant, they do not do a continental breakfast, but we will provide breakfast items.
