Week of Jan 26th

Welcome to the (even more) chaos!

In case you haven't heard, we've lost Adam and Brian to injuries recently, so you'll be seeing some new faces around until they're able to get back on skis - please welcome our new helpers and be patient as they settle into our routine.

Our race days will be long on Friday and Saturday. Athletes should eat a healthy breakfast, and they should pack pocket snacks, a good lunch (preferably that could be brought out on the hill if needed based on the last couple races), and a water bottle. Please get good sleep the night before. Four race runs is a lot and requires athletes to be on their A game.

Please note:

Due to our back-to-back races at Meadows this week (Friday and Saturday), I am looking into booking rooms in Hood River for athletes and parent chaperones on Friday night if I can get a block of rooms within our budget. Please fill out the following form NO LATER THAN 10PM ON TUESDAY so I can finalize plans.

As a heads up:

  1. Tuesday, 1/27 is On Snow Training at Skibowl. We'll be using bus transport from SMA - please bring equipment and be on the bus and ready to go for our scheduled 3:30pm departure. We expect the bus to be on the road back to SMA at about 8pm.

  2. Friday, 1/30 is a GS Race at Meadows, as was originally scheduled. All athletes will be excused from school for the race. The goal is to do 3-4 runs, depending on timing.

  3. Saturday, 1/31 is a SL Race at Meadows (not on the original calendar). The goal is to do 3-4 runs, depending on timing.

  4. Saturday, 2/7 Optional on snow training is CANCELED - Marina moved her trip home to that weekend to accommodate the new race schedule, so no SMA coaches are available. For athletes looking to train, let Marina know and I will get you linked up with some alternative options for coaching (at an additional cost, but all very knowledgeable and respected coaches on Mt Hood - it would be a good opportunity if you're interested).

  5. Sunday, 2/8 GS Race at Meadows is CANCELED.

  6. Friday, 2/20 SL Race at Cooper Spur is still a go.

This week could get complicated and confusing with last-minute decisions on lodging and transportation, so please let me know if you have any questions or concerns at any point!

This is a reminder that PRACTICES AND RACES ARE MANDATORY, unless otherwise specified or excused by Marina. If you are unsure what is considered an excused absence, please refer to the team policies and let me know if you have questions or concerns.

For Athletes:

  • Impromptu Possible Team Overnight in Hood River: Please make sure you and your parent have completed the form together (questions for both of you) no later than 10pm Tuesday 1/27.

  • On Snow Training - Tuesday 1/27:

    • Skibowl doesn't have enough snow to set, but we'll be doing drills as small(ish) groups. The bus will drop you off and you'll meet coaches at Skibowl East (not the normal side). You can boot up and meet coaches outside the Multorpor Lodge. We will skate over to the red chair from there to avoid the Lower Bowl death trap on the west side.

    • Please use the button below to RSVP for Tuesday night training.

  • GS Race - Friday 1/30

    • I'll send out more details Wednesday, but be prepared for 4 runs of GS.

    • Please use the buttons below to RSVP no later than 8pm Tuesday and to sign up for a carpool.

  • SL Race - Saturday 1/31

    • I'll send out more details Wednesday/Thursday, but be prepared for 4 runs of slalom.

    • Please use the buttons below to RSVP no later than 8pm Tuesday and to sign up for a carpool.

For Parents:

  • Impromptu Possible Team Overnight in Hood River: Please make sure that you and your athlete have completed the form together (questions for parents and athletes) no later than 10pm on Tuesday 1/27.

    https://forms.gle/3xkYTeEqYPMfHqxJA

  • Sweatshirts: If you ordered a team sweatshirt, they have been distributed. Additional sweatshirts (beyond the athlete) were $30 each, as mentioned before. To pay for your sweatshirt, you can pay me directly via Venmo, Zelle, or bring me cash if that's your preference. Let me know if the QR codes give you any trouble!

  • GS Race (Friday): This race will be at Meadows. If we don't book a hotel, this will be Portland -> Meadows -> Portland. If we book a hotel for Friday night, we will ask carpool drivers to drop kids off in Hood River, even if not staying to chaperone. If this is the case, we may need additional drivers to head to Meadows by way of Hood River Saturday morning to transport kids/gear. I'll have more details Wednesday. Use the button below to add your car to the Friday carpool.

  • Slalom Race (Saturday): This race will be at Meadows. If we don't book a hotel, this will be Portland -> Meadows -> Portland. If we book a hotel for Friday night, we may need additional drivers to head to Meadows by way of Hood River Saturday morning to transport kids/gear, which would be a possibility for anyone signing up here for carpool duty. You'll then be transporting athletes back to Portland as a part of the carpool. I'll have more details Wednesday. Use the button below to add your car to the Saturday carpool.
