What is an approved race helmet?
An approved race helmet will have a FIS sticker on the back (shown below). They will check for this sticker prior to racing, so it is important that every racer owns an approved helmet. You should purchase a jaw guard with your helmet. These are specific to the brand, so it is best to purchase them together.
There are many brand options available from vendors. Some commonly worn brands: POC, Shred, Briko, Atomic, Giro. All brands fit differently, so it is important to find one that fits your head shape well.
Unfortunately, local vendors do not carry extensive inventory, so if you do not find a well-fitting helmet at a local shop, you should turn to online vendors. If you're ordering online, we strongly recommend purchasing a helmet with a favorable return policy and purchasing well ahead of the first race so there is time to return and purchase an alternative option if needed.
