Welcome back from break!
Huge shout out and THANK YOU to all of the parents who got athletes up to Timberline for training over break. We really appreciate you all doing so despite the less-than-exciting terrain and weather available for your enjoyment during the day.
As a reminder, we rely on carpool to get everyone to and from the mountain. I realize winter break is difficult with some people traveling or staying on the mountain, but please get in the habit of adding your vehicle to the carpool app if you have any available spots for athletes. We have run into a lot of athletes looking for & unable to find rides, so this is a friendly reminder that everyone is expected to participate in the carpool and we need all of you to use the app so we can get everyone a spot moving forward. Thanks!
I hope everyone is proud of their progress over break and that you learned a thing or two! We saw great skiing and improvements across the board for athletes who were able to train with us over break. I feel confident in saying that we are going into the first race of the season as one of the most prepared teams in the league. We're really proud of all of you for sticking it out on Bruno's with us over the weekend. Remember that every turn on your skis is making you a more experienced and better equipped skier, even if it's on the bunny hill!
Timberline is OPEN. Skibowl is NOT. On snow training for Thursday night is CANCELED, but we will still have practice. See notes below for the new plan.
We have a lot of logistics happening this week with our first race at Anthony Lakes. Please don't hesitate to reach out if I missed anything important or you have questions. I tried to cover everything, but I may have missed something, and if you're wondering/looking for it, chances are that someone else is as well. Please don't be shy about shooting me a Remind message any time!
Please scroll down to the Anthony Lakes section to see carpool and room assignments for this upcoming weekend. I will leave it to individual carpools to organize meeting times/locations, etc. Everyone should be on Remind, so feel free to use that for messaging, or reach out directly if you have their contact info.

Other events this week:
None outside of dryland training. Get some rest, study for finals, and eat healthy so you all stay healthy heading into your race season and finals week which is fast approaching!
For Athletes:
A lot of athletes have been getting sick. Get good rest, study for finals, and eat well so you all stay healthy heading into your race season and finals week which is fast approaching!
Remember that you're responsible for being at practice. Homework should not interfere with this - please practice good time management and talk to Kirstan or Marina if you need tips/tricks for time management or studying. Both are good resources. :)
Rest and exercise are good for your brain! So dryland and sleep are both very important parts of your routine, especially in these next few weeks. Support this with a healthy, balanced diet.
Anthony Lakes Race: Below is the information for our trip to eastern Oregon this weekend. Please take a look and make sure you know who you're riding with, who you're staying with, and what you should bring with you/be prepared to purchase.
For Parents:
Mt Hood League Waiver: Please complete the league waiver. This is for athletes, coaches, and volunteers. It's available on the Mt Hood League website as well.
Anthony Lakes Race: See info below.
On snow training (Thursday): This practice is CANCELED due to lack of snow - Skibowl is not yet open. Please don't leave your athlete at school waiting for the bus - it won't be coming. :)
Anthony Lakes Race - January 10th
The race is on, so we will be traveling to eastern Oregon Jan 9-10.
Travel
Carpools will depart Portland Fri 1/9, Return to Portland Sat 1/10. See carpool assignments below.
Traveling as a carpool: if you are driving a carpool, you are more than welcome to depart Portland after school on Friday, Jan 9th. When you arrive to Baker City, you’ll check in at the front desk and they’ll have your room assignments. Anyone utilizing team provided lodging should plan to head back to Portland Saturday following the race. Those who are making a weekend of it are welcome to do what they want once athletes have been released by the coaches from their race day.

Race
Racing: We’ll race Saturday with the typical schedule - on the hill at 9, race starts at 10, lunch between first and second runs, then we should be done and off the hill between 2 and 3.
Start Order: The start order will be posted to the league website once it's available (probably Friday).
Live Timing: The links will be posted to the league website once/if available. They may not be available with limited service/wifi at the resort.
Lodging
If you are traveling as a solo athlete in a carpool or a parent chaperone (no extra siblings, etc): The team has booked a block of rooms for athletes, coaches, and parent chaperones at the Best Western in Baker City. See room assignments below for team-provided lodging. Athletes with parents who are staying are welcome to room with their parents if preferred.

Food
Friday Dinner: Carpools should make their own plans for dinner on the road Friday - pack food or stop along the way. Athletes will be responsible for covering the cost of their dinner.
Saturday Breakfast: hotel breakfast (included in stay)
Saturday Lunch: Athletes are responsible for their lunch. Highly recommend packing this with you in a cooler/lunch box on Friday and sticking it in the fridge in the room Friday night. It looks like they do have food for purchase in the lodge if needed/preferred.
Lift Tickets
Athletes will purchase their own lift ticket for race day. There is no special racer pricing, but tickets are reasonably priced at $50 for students.
You can purchase tickets ahead of time, but there is limited cell service at the resort, so please be sure you have a screenshot of the receipt to avoid having to purchase twice. https://anthonylakes.com/winter/day-tickets/
If you're looking for additional tickets, you can find the prices on their website: https://anthonylakes.com/winter/day-tickets/
Packing
Please keep in mind that you're traveling with a carpool and it's a long ride. There's no need to pack a week's worth of clothes for one night and a race day. Make sure your belongings are consolidated in a reasonably sized bag and your ski clothes/equipment are ready for travel. Double check your boot bag to make sure you have everything you need before Friday morning.
Recommended items for packing:

Meds/toiletries/other necessities for an overnight

Skis/boots/poles/race helmet (with jaw guard) *Slalom gear if you have it. Otherwise, bring what you have.
